چکیده

Enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) is an obscure but economical and helpful technology for removing biologically from wastewater. A 3-MLD capacity pre-anoxic selector-attached sequencing batch reactor (SBR) treated municipal wastewater the residents of IIT Roorkee. The treatment in plant satisfied effluent discharge standards all respects except phosphorus, observed during intensive two-year study. An elaborated 80-day study was performed to enhance improve plant’s performance terms specifically, with run 1: solid retention times (SRT) reduced 56 20 days (t = 35 d), 2: lowering diffuser’s running time 15 min 10 anoxic cum anaerobic selector chambers (dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration <0.15 mg/L) along reducing SRT 25 3:intensive reduction ≤10 d). During 3, increment enhanced efficiency three that initial (ηmax~65%) a readily biodegradable chemical demand total ratio (rbCOD/TP) 7.8. 16SrRNA revealed microbial community structure before after changes EBPR efficiencies, correlate biochemical processes functional organisms.

Effects of Solid Retention Time (SRT) on Sludge Characteristics in Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal (EBPR) Reactor

This study investigated the effects of solid retention time (SRT) on sludge characteristics and operational performance in enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) reactor. The results showed that the reactor operated at SRT of / = 8.3 d could achieve phosphate removal efficiency > 90 % and SVI < 100 mL g–1. In comparison, increasing SRT to / = 16.6 d led to a decrease of phosphate removal...

Aerobic Sludge Granulation in a Full-Scale Sequencing Batch Reactor

Aerobic granulation of activated sludge was successfully achieved in a full-scale sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with 50,000 m(3) d(-1) for treating a town's wastewater. After operation for 337 days, in this full-scale SBR, aerobic granules with an average SVI30 of 47.1 mL g(-1), diameter of 0.5 mm, and settling velocity of 42 m h(-1) were obtained. Compared to an anaerobic/oxic plug flow (A/O)...

Assessment of nitrogen and phosphorus removal in an intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor (IASBR) and a sequencing batch reactor (SBR).

Biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal was investigated in an intermittently aerated sequencing batch reactor (IASBR) and a sequencing batch reactor (SBR). The removal efficiencies of ammonium-nitrogen (NH4(+)-N) were 100% in both reactors in steady operation state. The total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiencies were 90.4% in the IASBR and 79.3% in the SBR, while the total phosphorus (TP) rem...

Metabolic modelling of full-scale enhanced biological phosphorus removal sludge.

This study investigates, for the first time, the application of metabolic models incorporating polyphosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs) and glycogen accumulating organisms (GAOs) towards describing the biochemical transformations of full-scale enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) activated sludge from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). For this purpose, it was required to modify p...

Effect of nitrite from nitritation on biological phosphorus removal in a sequencing batch reactor treating domestic wastewater.

Although nitrite effect on enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) has been previously studied, very limited research has been undertaken about the effect of nitrite accumulation caused by nitritation on EBPR. This paper focused on nitrite effect from nitritation on EBPR in a sequencing batch reactor treating domestic wastewater. Results showed that nitrite of below 10mg/L did not inhibit...
